Can my childhood pertussis vaccination and my current Tetanus vaccination be combined to meet Tdap requirements?

No. The Tdap vaccination is composed of Tetanus, pertussis and diphtheria vaccines. If you received a childhood pertussis vaccination of pertussis, the Tdap is a much needed booster. Children are given a DTaP not Tdap. After a child DTaP vaccination has expired, they should be given Tdap.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides guidelines for the Td booster vaccine:
... Td protects against tetanus and diphtheria, but not pertussis. A Td booster should be given every 10 years. Tdap may be given as one of these boosters if you have never gotten Tdap before.
