Healthcare Personnel (HCP)The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Word Heath Organization (WHO), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) all operate under a very specific definition of healthcare personnel or HCP.Officially, HCPs are defined as all paid and unpaid persons working in a healthcare setting who have the potential for exposure to patients and/or to infectious materials, including body substances, contaminated medical supplies and equipment, contaminated environmental surfaces, or contaminated air.
